We are pleased to announce an informational meeting to kick-off two Mellon-funded grants supporting Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) on our campuses: University of Chicago’s Mellon Collaborative Partners and Michigan State University’s Big Ten LCTL Partnership. The University of Chicago project will bring two individual instructors from two campuses together to develop a shared, articulated curriculum. The Michigan State University project will establish working groups with representatives of at least three institutions to develop an online model of LCTL instruction. Both projects have significant proficiency levels in LCTLs as goals.
The kick-off, to be held at the Big Ten Conference Center in Chicago, will serve to disseminate information about the grants and build interest for potential participants and languages. There will be a dinner reception on Sunday evening, September 11th, followed by joint morning informational sessions on Monday, break-out meetings for the individual grants on Monday afternoon, and a closing reception.
